The AI platform Claude, developed by Anthropic, experienced instability on Monday, March 2nd, with users reporting crashes and malfunctions in both the web version and the Windows app. Initial reports surfaced around 9 AM (CST), primarily from the United States.

Monitoring data from Downdetector indicated a sudden increase in error notifications throughout the morning. Users mentioned screen freezes, file upload failures, and difficulties starting new conversations.

Some reports shared on the platform include:

  • “Still not working here. It just freezes. It's been like this for about 30 minutes.” — said Rick Wade
  • “As of 9:58 AM (CST), it still doesn’t work, doesn’t read my uploads, and crashes on both Claude Web and Claude Desktop for Windows.” — said Ricardo

At the time of publication, Anthropic had not released a statement detailing the cause of the instability or confirmed any impact on its commercial API.

Coincidence with AWS Incident

The instability coincided with reports of a physical incident at an Amazon Web Services (AWS) data center in the Middle East region. According to the specialized site Data Center Dynamics, a fire was reported after objects struck the facility, and technical teams were working to restore power and services.

Despite the timing, there is no public confirmation that the AWS incident caused the instability in Claude. It has also not been disclosed whether Anthropic's infrastructure specifically uses the affected region.

Cloud-based services typically operate with geographic redundancy, but failures in critical components can cause temporary effects on authentication or routing, depending on the architecture used.

Situation in the Coming Hours

By early afternoon, reports on Downdetector started to fluctuate, indicating a possible gradual normalization for some users. Nonetheless, there was no formal update detailing the reason for the failure or an official forecast for complete stability.

The expectation now is for a technical statement from Anthropic clarifying the source of the instability and whether any external infrastructure dependency was impacted.
