The OpenAI announced on Thursday, April 2, 2026, the acquisition of TBPN, a daily tech talk show that has become a staple in Silicon Valley. The financial details of the deal were not disclosed, but the show, on air since 2024, is expected to generate over $30 million in advertising revenue this year. Essentially, TBPN will bolster the company's marketing and communication strategies while maintaining complete editorial independence.

According to OpenAI's official blog, this decision came after the company realized that the “standard communications playbook simply doesn't work for us.” The announcement was signed by Fidji Simo, who oversees the company's products and applications. She emphasized that TBPN brings together a team with sharp editorial instincts, a deep understanding of the audience, and the ability to gather influential voices from tech, business, and culture.

TBPN started as a project by two entrepreneurs, John Coogan and Jordi Hays, and quickly gained traction with live broadcasts. The format blends casual conversation with in-depth interviews, such as with Meta's CEO, Mark Zuckerberg. Thousands of viewers tune in to the daily show, which lasts about three hours and is already being compared to a “SportsCenter for Silicon Valley.” Behind the acquisition is OpenAI's desire to create space for real conversations about AI's impact, without solely relying on traditional press releases.

In practice, the hosts will integrate with OpenAI's internal team and report directly to Chris Lehane, the company's head of policy and strategy. Nevertheless, the program continues exactly as before, with no blacklist of guests and total freedom to cover any topic.

From now on, TBPN will enhance its daily programming with the backing of OpenAI, and episodes will continue to air at their usual time starting today, broadening discussions on artificial intelligence to an even larger audience.
