OpenAI Unveils $10 Billion Subsidiary to Lead Global AI Consulting

OpenAI officially announced on Monday (11th) the creation of The Deployment Company, a new entity under Sam Altman's company focused exclusively on large-scale AI deployment and integration. The subsidiary launches with a valuation of $10 billion and over $4 billion in committed capital.

From Laboratory to Service Giant

This move marks OpenAI's definitive shift from a research lab to a full-service company. To enhance its delivery capabilities, OpenAI has acquired Tomoro, a renowned AI engineering consultancy. This acquisition immediately integrates about 150 Forward Deployed Engineers (FDEs) — specialists who work directly within client organizations to identify bottlenecks and redesign entire workflows around AI.

Under the leadership of OpenAI's COO, Brad Lightcap, the new company won't just sell software subscriptions. The focus is on deeply restructuring business systems, organizational infrastructure, and operational processes to ensure AI's impact is measured in real productivity and financial returns.

A Network of Global Partners

The Deployment Company is backed by a consortium of 19 financial institutions, consultancies, and system integrators. Confirmed names include giants like Goldman Sachs, SoftBank Corp, McKinsey & Company, Bain & Company, and Capgemini. This network of partners gives the new entity direct access to over 2,000 global companies already in these investors' portfolios.

Industry experts interpret the launch as a strategic response to the growing demand for tangible outcomes from generative AI. "Companies have moved past the 'experiment' phase. Now, they need technical expertise to safely and scalably put AI into production," said a market analyst. With this new implementation arm, OpenAI directly competes with traditional integrators like Accenture and Microsoft's professional services division.
